Race Gear Note compares shoes and gear for people racing the marathon, half marathon, trail running and HYROX, using numbers published by brands and races. On Oct 13, 2026, it expanded from a HYROX-only site to four sports.
Who writes this, and what I write
I write numbers that can be checked in official documents, plus prices from stores. I list things that read the same to anyone: station distances and weights, shoe weight and stack height, equipment dimensions.
I'm an amateur runner: I run about 500 km a month, my marathon best is under 2:30, and I also race trail and triathlon. I'm a "shoe nerd" who loves nothing more than reading and comparing spec sheets, shoes above all.
Each article is built on official numbers from races and brands, plus store prices. On top of that, I add how a high-mileage runner reads them: which numbers matter, and for whom.
I only write fit and feel impressions for shoes I've actually worn, and I make that clear. I never write about a shoe I haven't worn as if I had. Brand claims are marked separately as "according to the brand."
The same writer also runs Golf Gear Lab, which compares golf clubs by the numbers, and Pickleball Gear Note, which compares pickleball gear.
I don't write about training methods, injuries or illness, or the effects of food and drink. If you have health concerns, talk to a doctor before you enter.
Where the numbers come from
- Race format, time limits, mandatory gear and rules: each race's official site and guidelines, the official HYROX rulebook, and World Athletics rules
- Gear specs: product pages on each brand's official site
- Prices: prices on the day I checked, via Rakuten Ichiba product search (Rakuten Web Service)
Relationship with official bodies
This is an unofficial personal site with no connection to any race organizer, HYROX's operating company or any brand. Race and product names are trademarks of their owners. Race dates, fees and rules can change, so always check the official site before you enter.
