The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 Jonathan Joestar model is a bone conduction earphone made with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood. It goes on sale Friday, Oct 23, 2026, in limited quantity, at JPY 27,880. The base OpenRun Pro 2 adds an air-conduction bass driver and runs up to 12 hours.

The Shoe Nerd's top pick

For bone conduction with deep bass, the OpenRun Pro 2 is the one. Bone conduction handles the mids and highs and an air-conduction driver handles the bass, so it is built differently from the bone-conduction-only Air 2. The Jonathan model is a limited edition of that Pro 2 with collab design. At 500 km a month, I want my ears open and the sound full. For that kind of running, I'd pick the Pro 2 line.

Key points

  • On sale Oct 23 (Fri), limited quantity. JPY 27,880, the same as the base OpenRun Pro 2
  • Bone conduction + air conduction in two stages (DualPitch). Battery up to 12 hours, with 2.5 hours from 5 minutes of charging
  • JPY 8,000 more than the Air 2, and water resistance drops from IP67 to IP55

When does the Jonathan model come out, and what does it cost?

It goes on sale on Oct 23, 2026 (Fri), in limited quantity. The price is JPY 27,880 including tax, the same as the base OpenRun Pro 2.

A Dio Brando model comes out in the same collab. It is the OpenDots 2, an open-ear model, not bone conduction. For running, the bone conduction one is the Jonathan model.

How is the OpenRun Pro 2 different from the Air 2?

The Pro 2 wins on sound and battery, the Air 2 on water resistance and price. Those two axes sum up the difference.

OpenRun Air 2OpenRun Pro 2Difference
Price (tax included)JPY 19,880JPY 27,880+JPY 8,000
Continuous playback10 hours12 hours+2 hours
Quick charge2 hours from 5 minutes2.5 hours from 5 minutes+0.5 hours
Water resistanceIP67IP55One step lower
Bluetooth6.05.3The Air 2 is newer
Both sets of figures come from Shokz's official Japan product pages. The gaps: 27,880 − 19,880 = JPY 8,000, 12 − 10 = 2 hours, and 2.5 − 2 = 0.5 hours.

Battery cost per 1 hour: the Pro 2 is 27,880 ÷ 12 ≒ JPY 2,323, and the Air 2 is 19,880 ÷ 10 = JPY 1,988. The JPY 8,000 gap is what you pay for the sound design.

Only on water resistance does the Air 2 come out ahead. If you want to rinse yours, read the Air 2 article first.

What I like

First, the two-stage sound design. A bone conduction driver plays the mids and highs, and an air-conduction driver plays the bass. Shokz calls it DualPitch. Air makes up for the bass that bone alone lacks.

Second, the battery. Up to 12 hours still leaves 6 hours after a 6-hour marathon (12 − 6). Five minutes of charging gives 2.5 hours, which covers an unplanned long run.

Third, the range of colors and sizes. There are standard and Mini sizes, and the standard comes in black, orange, blue and more. The Jonathan model is a limited collab edition on top of that. For fans, the short window to get it is the deciding factor.

Things to watch

First, water resistance. IP55 handles sweat and rain, but it is not a rating you can rinse under water like the Air 2's IP67. Wipe it dry after use.

Second, limited quantity. You can't buy it before the Oct 23 release date, and units are limited. If you can't wait, the regular OpenRun Pro 2 comes in more colors.

Third, the price. JPY 27,880 is JPY 8,000 more than the Air 2. If you won't use the fuller bass, the Air 2 is enough.

Who is it for?

  • You want to run with your ears open and still hear deep bass
  • Your training runs are long, and 12 hours of battery gives peace of mind
  • You want the JoJo collab on hand as gear you actually use

If you want to rinse it clean or keep the price down, the Air 2 is another way to go.
