Among running releases from Oct 14, 2026, the ones worth waiting for are the Nike Alphafly 4 (Oct 29, JPY 39,600) and the Garmin Enduro 4 (Oct 22). Official announcements have given release dates for 12 releases. The nearest is the ASICS NIMBUS MIRAI 2 on Oct 15 (JPY 24,200), followed in November and December by 5 Mizuno HYPERWARP shoes. Carrying over into next year are Nike's 2 shoes and On's Cloudsurfer 3.
The Shoe Nerd's top pick
The ones worth waiting for are the Alphafly 4 and the Enduro 4. The previous Alphafly can no longer be bought on the official Japan site, and the price is listed at JPY 39,600. The wait is 16 days. The Enduro 4 has the same battery figures as the last model, but the official price is JPY 10,000 lower and the storage is 2 times larger. Choose the earlier Enduro 3 only if shop prices have clearly dropped.
Key points
- 3 come out in October: the NIMBUS MIRAI 2 (15th), Enduro 4 (22nd) and Alphafly 4 (29th, shown as "coming soon" on Nike's official Japan site)
- Mizuno HYPERWARP: the PURE 2 and ELITE 2 on Nov 6, the roughly 96g HYPERWARP 96 on Dec 4, and the RACER and PACER on Dec 10
- The Adios Pro 5 is "not yet decided for domestic release." Nike's Apex is Jan 2027 and Swooshfly is spring 2027
With running releases, rumors arrive first. But narrow it to those where the maker's official announcement says when they come out, and the number drops sharply. On Oct 13, 2026, I reopened each maker's announcements and lined up, in release-date order, only those with a date from Oct 14 onward (or words like "coming soon" or "spring 2027").

3 releases in October
ASICS NIMBUS MIRAI 2 (Oct 15)
What the announcement says: the 2nd generation of ASICS' daily NIMBUS MIRAI. The price is JPY 24,200. Sizes run 22.5 to 29.0cm and 30.0cm, in 1 color. It's sold at the ASICS online store and brand stores (excluding outlets).
How it differs from the current generation: the announcement says it's about 37g lighter than the previous model. The price rose JPY 2,200 from the original's JPY 22,000 (24,200 − 22,000). That's exactly 10%. The announcement also says greenhouse gases from making it are 4.9kg per pair, 1.2kg less than the original's 6.1kg.
- Wait if: you want your daily shoe 37g lighter (just 2 more days)
- Fine to buy the current generation if: you want the JPY 2,200 gap. The generation 2 weight is 248g on the official Japan product page. The figures are compared in our NIMBUS MIRAI 2 review
What to watch for is that it's 1 color and sold only through ASICS direct channels. On Rakuten, the original and the 2 show up mixed. The button below is a search where both generations appear, so tell them apart by whether the product name has a "2."
ASICS NIMBUS MIRAI (original and 2 are both listed; check the number in the product name)
Lowest price on Rakuten is JPY 24,200 (as of 10/15). Prices change daily. Shoes are best tried on in the evening, when your feet swell, with your usual socks. Fit varies by brand, so check the return and exchange terms on the shop page before you buy.

What the announcement says: a watch for long races such as 100 miles. The announcement dated Oct 9 says pre-orders open Oct 15, release is Oct 22, at JPY 138,000. Weight is 66g (57g for the body alone), and storage is 64 GB.
How it differs from the current generation: lined up with the official Japan page for the Enduro 3.
| Enduro 4 | Enduro 3 | Difference | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight | 66g | 63g | +3g |
| Body-only weight | 57g | 57g | 0g |
| Storage | 64GB | 32GB | Double |
| GPS mode battery | About 120 h | About 120 h | 0 hours |
| Dimensions | 51×51×15.7mm | 51×51×15.7mm | Same |
The battery figures are the same as the last model. What changed is what's inside: storage is 2 times larger, memory is up 50%, and map redraw speed is up to 30% faster, the announcement says. In other words, the Enduro 4 became not a "longer-lasting watch" but a "watch whose maps move faster."
- Wait if: you load lots of maps and move them often during a race
- Fine to buy the current generation if: you find a shop price clearly below the Enduro 4's official price. The battery figures are the same
Details are in the Enduro 4 review, down to subtracting from race time limits. What to watch for is the 3g gain in weight. I place 2 buttons: the top is a search for the new Enduro 4, the bottom for watches named Enduro, which for now mostly shows the previous-generation Enduro 3.

Nike Alphafly 4 (Oct 29)
What the announcement says: in Nike's head office announcement of Sep 17, it goes on sale first in limited quantities on Sep 17, with wide sales from Oct 29. On the official page for Japan, men's and women's both show "coming soon" at JPY 39,600. Weight is about 188g (men's 26.5cm), and the drop (height difference between heel and front) is 8mm.
How it differs from the current generation: the announcement says it's 5% lighter than the previous generation (men's 8.5) with 10% higher energy return (the return of the force you put in). Working backward, the previous generation is about 198g, a gap of about 10g (188 ÷ 0.95 = 197.9). The reason for the weight loss is a new foam, ZoomX LT, up to 17% lighter than regular ZoomX.
- Wait if: you want an Alphafly, which is everyone. The previous Alphafly 3 shows as unavailable on the official Japan site. The wait is 16 days (Oct 29 − Oct 13)
- Fine to buy the current generation if: you want a Nike plated shoe this month. In that case it's its sibling the Vaporfly 4 (JPY 29,700), a gap of JPY 9,900 (39,600 − 29,700)
What to watch for is that Oct 29 is the date in the head office's announcement, and the Japan official page shows no date. The button below is a search for the new Alphafly 4. Before release few products match, and it's set to exclude the previous generation.
Nike Alphafly 4
Before release: available from Oct 29Release dates in November and December: 5 Mizuno HYPERWARP shoes
Mizuno is replacing its racing HYPERWARP lineup in 1 year. The Oct 8 announcement covers 4 second-generation shoes, and the Sep 24 announcement covers the limited model of about 96g. All figures are for a 27.0cm, per shoe.

| Model | Release date | Weight | Sole thickness (heel / front) | Plate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PURE 2 | Nov 6 | About 135g | 38.0 / 35.0mm | Carbon |
| ELITE 2 | Nov 6 | About 160g | 39.0 / 36.0mm | Carbon |
| HYPERWARP 96 | Dec 4 | About 96g | 39.0 / 36.0mm | Carbon |
| RACER | Dec 10 | About 200g | 37.0 / 34.0mm | Carbon |
| PACER | Dec 10 | About 205g | 35.5 / 32.5mm | None |
HYPERWARP PURE 2 and ELITE 2 (Nov 6)
What the announcement says: both are racing shoes for runners aiming to break 3 hours in the full marathon. They're sold at the official online store, brand stores and some retailers.
How it differs from the current generation: the PURE 2 has a sole 3.5mm thicker at both the front and the heel, and weighs about 2g less. Taking 2 off the original announcement's about 137g gives 135g, and the numbers match. The ELITE 2 is 1.5mm thicker at the front and 1.0mm at the heel, and about 10g lighter. The original was about 170g, so this matches too (170 − 10 = 160).
On both, the plate is 8mm longer toward the front. Thickening a sole and making it lighter are normally opposite orders. Doing both at once is what this generation change is. Working backward, the original PURE's sole was 34.5 / 31.5mm (38.0 − 3.5, 35.0 − 3.5).
- Wait if: you're about to buy a Mizuno plated shoe. The wait is 24 days, and both thickness and lightness change
- Fine to buy the current generation if: you prefer the thin side of the sole. The PURE gets 3.5mm thicker, so if you choose it for thinness, the original is the one while it's still around
HYPERWARP 96 (Dec 4)
What the announcement says: about 96g. The sole is 39.0 / 36.0mm, inside the road rules' limit of 40mm. The announcement says it's a shoe approved by World Athletics. Only 696 pairs worldwide. It goes on sale first on Dec 4 at the official online store and brand stores, and some retailers get it in Jan 2027 or later.
How it differs from its siblings: 39g lighter than the PURE 2 (135 − 96). As a proportion, about 29% (39 ÷ 135). The sole is the same thickness as the ELITE 2, yet the weight is 60% (96 ÷ 160).
- Wait if: you want a shoe under 100g itself
- For a pair to use long in races: only 696 pairs exist, and no distance guideline is given. The PURE 2 fits better
HYPERWARP RACER and PACER (Dec 10)
What the announcement says: the RACER is a racing shoe for runners aiming at 3 to 4 hours in the full marathon, and from this generation it has a carbon plate. The PACER is a plate-free training shoe and a model added for the first time this time.
How it differs from its siblings: the RACER is 40g heavier than the ELITE 2 (200 − 160), with a sole 2mm thinner. The PACER is 5g heavier than the RACER, with a sole 1.5mm thinner. The order of weight and the order of intended speed line up.
- Wait if: you're around 3 and a half hours and want to choose a carbon plate (RACER). You want a training shoe with the same name as your racing shoe (PACER)
- No need to wait if: you want to use it in a race this year. It releases Dec 10, so it won't make a November race
The button below is a search where the current generation (the original PURE, ELITE and PRO) mostly shows. The 2nd generation has "2," "RACER" or "PACER" in the product name.
Mizuno HYPERWARP (current generation)
The lowest price on Rakuten was JPY 18,299 (as of 10/13). It ranges up to JPY 47,100 depending on the shop. Prices move daily. Try shoes on in the evening, when your feet swell, with your usual socks. Fit differs by brand, so read the shop's return and exchange terms before you buy.

Nike Apex (Jan 2027)
What the announcement says: in the announcement of Sep 30, it goes on sale in Jan 2027 at nike.com and some stores. The sole is 40mm at both heel and front with a 0mm drop. It has 2 sets of Air Zoom (air-filled parts) stacked in 2 tiers, 4 in all. The price has not been announced.
How it differs from the current generation: the announcement says it's more than 10% lighter than the Alphafly 3, with up to 40% higher energy return (men's 10). Applying that to the Alphafly 3's about 198g worked out above, it comes to lighter than the 178g range (198 × 0.9 = 178.2). The size conditions aren't matched, so read it as a rough guide.
- Wait if: you'd rather choose the top build than the price
- No need to wait if: your feet fit shoes with an 8mm drop. 0mm is a different shoe. That stays on the Alphafly 4's side
On Cloudsurfer 3 (full release in early 2027)
What the announcement says: in On's announcement of Sep 15, it goes on sale first only at running specialty stores on Oct 1. The full release including on.com and brand stores is "early 2027." 285g (men's US 8.5), 8mm drop, $160.
How it differs from the current generation: the Cloudsurfer 2's materials list a 9mm drop and $160. The dollar price is the same, and the drop falls 1mm. Inside is a new foam, Surreal, and the announcement gives a calculated result that, combined with the diagonal holes, compression goes 15.5% deeper than with the foam alone.
- Wait if: you want to choose the new foam. The dollar price is unchanged, so there's no number where waiting costs you
- Fine to buy the current generation if: you need 1 daily pair within the year. The button below is a search where generations up to the Cloudsurfer 2 appear
How to read the 285g weight against the 2's 260g, and the softness figures, is covered in the Cloudsurfer 3 review.

Lowest price on Rakuten is JPY 14,950 (as of 10/13), ranging up to JPY 23,100 depending on the shop. Prices change daily.
RecommendedSee it on Rakuten IchibaSee it on Yahoo! Shopping JapanNike Swooshfly (spring 2027)
What the announcement says: it goes on sale in China in Feb 2027 and worldwide that spring. It uses a new foam, SkyX, and a carbon plate, and is intended for everything from the 5K to the marathon. Energy return is up to 16% higher than the Vaporfly 4 (men's 10). Price, weight and thickness are not in the announcement.
- Wait if: you want a Nike plated shoe at a more reachable price than the current racing shoes. The announcement says only "more accessible"
- Fine to buy the current generation if: you have a race before spring. The Vaporfly 4, named as the one to compare against, is the one you can buy now

RecommendedSee it on Rakuten IchibaSee it on Yahoo! Shopping Japanadidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 (Japan not decided)
What the announcement says: adidas Japan's announcement of Sep 22 says "domestic release not yet decided," and that it will notify members by email and so on once decided. Weight is about 177g in a 27.0cm, the sole is 39 / 35mm, and the drop is 4mm.
How it differs from the current generation: the Adios Pro 4 on the official Japan site is 200g, 39 / 33mm, JPY 28,600. The gap is 23g, and the forefoot gets 2mm thicker (177 + 23 = 200).
- Wait if: with no date, you can't make a plan to wait. Just deciding to buy once it's out is enough
- Fine to buy the current generation if: you're racing in adidas this winter. The button below is the current generation, the Adios Pro 4

Wait for the new releases, or buy now? What yardsticks decide it by the difference from the last generation?
Conditions first. I look at the price gap, the markdown of the previous generation, and stock right after release. Those 3.
1. Does the price gap match the numerical gap? The NIMBUS MIRAI 2 sheds 37g for a JPY 2,200 rise. That's about JPY 59 per gram (2,200 ÷ 37). The Cloudsurfer 3's dollar price is unchanged. With the same price, there's still a reason to wait for the new one.
2. Can the previous generation still be bought officially? The Alphafly 3 shows as unavailable on the official Japan site. In that case there's no "cheap last-generation" move on the official side; it depends on shop stock. By contrast, on Nike's official Japan site, after the Pegasus 42 came out, the Pegasus 41 carried a markdown label. For brands where the previous generation stays on the official site, a new release date is the signal for a price drop.
3. Can you buy it normally right after release? Reading the announcements, few items line up in every shop from the start. The Alphafly 4 had a limited-quantity early release on Sep 17. The Cloudsurfer 3 goes on sale first at specialty stores only. The HYPERWARP 96 is 696 pairs, with retailers the following month or later. The NIMBUS MIRAI 2 is direct-sale only. If you decide to "buy on release day," read in the announcement which sales channel it is.
Apply the 3 and you get the top picks at the start. The Alphafly 4 has no previous generation on the official site, a price is out, and it arrives in 16 days. The Enduro 4 has the same battery figures, with storage the thing that changed. Even among the same 12, the size of the reason to wait differs this much.
If you're choosing this year's shoes across brands, our 2026 recommended shoes article lines up only what you can buy now.
FAQ
When does the Alphafly 4 come out in Japan?
Nike's head office announcement says "wide release from 10/29." The Japan official page of Oct 13, 2026, shows "coming soon" for both men's and women's, and the price is JPY 39,600.
How much is Mizuno's HYPERWARP 2nd generation?
From Mizuno's official HYPERWARP feature (checked Oct 14, 2026, tax included): the PURE 2 is JPY 35,200, the ELITE 2 is JPY 29,700, the RACER is JPY 22,000, and the PACER is JPY 18,700. The announcement has no prices, so these come from the official feature page.
When does the On Cloudsurfer 3 come out in Japan?
On's announcement says it goes on sale first at specialty stores only on Oct 1, with the full release including on.com and brand stores in early 2027.
Are there no new packs or apparel?
None has an official release date from Oct 14 onward. This is the result of searching announcements from Salomon, The North Face and mont-bell. For watches too, the Enduro 4 is the only one with a date. The COROS PACE 4 Pro (Sep 24) and Suunto Run 2 (Sep 29) are already out.
This list gets added to when official announcements appear (last checked: Oct 14, 2026).
