The Brooks Ghost AMP keeps the familiar Ghost fit for runners who want to push the pace a little, from easy jogs up to tempo runs. It went on sale in stages from late August 2026 for JPY 19,800. It weighs 250 g (27 cm), has a 6 mm drop, and no plate.

When did the Ghost AMP come out? Price and weight

In Japan it went on sale in stages from late Aug 2026, at the official Brooks online store and retailers. The price is JPY 19,800. It weighs 250 g in a 27 cm.

As the name says, it's a Ghost family shoe on the same last as the Ghost. A bouncy midsole goes on top of that, for jogging and tempo runs.

How is it different from the Ghost 18?

At the same JPY 19,800, they are different shoes inside. 3 things set them apart: midsole material, weight, and drop.

Let's turn 40 g into a full marathon. At a 1 m stride that's about 21,100 steps per foot. 40 g × 21,100 means each foot lifts about 844 kg less in total.

The 4 mm drop gap affects where you land. With 10 mm, you tend to strike on the heel; with 6 mm, nearer the middle of the foot. If you're switching from the Ghost 18, hold back the pace for the first few runs while you adjust.

How it differs from its siblings | Hyperion MAX 4 and Hyperion 3

Against the plated MAX 4, the AMP is 35 g lighter and JPY 11,000 cheaper (285 − 250, 30,800 − 19,800). If your workout doesn't need a plate's push, the AMP is enough.

In the same price band from other brands, the Novablast 6 (253 g, 8 mm drop, JPY 17,600) is the closest rival. The weight is nearly identical, and the AMP's drop is 2 mm lower. For a plate and more speed, there's the Yogiri Speed (about 227 g).

What I like

First, the midsole. DNA HYPE is a PEBA and EVA blend. PEBA is a light, springy material often used in racing shoe midsoles. Putting it in a trainer under JPY 20,000 is what makes this shoe worth buying.

Second, the last didn't change from the Ghost. The heel hold and the way the upper meets the top of your foot stay the same as the Ghost you're used to. You don't have to start over finding a comfortable fit.

Third, 250 g with no plate. Without a plate, nothing gets in the way of your stride on slow jogs. At JPY 79.2 per gram (19,800 ÷ 250), it's affordable for the weight. If you run between jogging and tempo pace every day, I rate this one pair highly.

Things to watch

First, width. The official Japan site lists only regular (men's D, women's B), with no wide (as of Oct 18). If you wear a 2E in the Ghost 18, this is where you get stuck.

Second, the 6 mm drop. If you're used to the Ghost's 10 mm, it'll load your calves. Don't start with a long run.

Third, stock. Some men's colors and sizes were sold out as of 10/18. Check your size's stock before buying.

Who is it for?

• You like how the Ghost feels and want to run at a faster pace too
• You want one plate-free pair to cover jogs through tempo runs
• You're used to shoes with a 6 to 8 mm drop

If slow, long runs are your main days, the Ghost 18 is another way to go. If you need a wide width, that one fits better.

How does the Ghost AMP fit?

Length fits true to size. The last is the same as the Ghost: a secure heel with room in the toe. My foot is 25.0 cm, so I'd pick 25.0 cm.

Width comes in just one regular. If you fit the Ghost's D normally, the same length is your starting point. Try them on in the evening, with your usual socks.

Price and where to buy

Buy by the "AMP" in the product name. "Ghost 18" and "Ghost Max" are different shoes. Men's model numbers start with BRM4973, women's with BRW4862.
