The Adios Pro 5 is a race shoe about 23 g lighter than the Pro 4 at about 177 g (27.0 cm), with a forefoot 2 mm thicker. Its low 4 mm drop suits runners who push forward. However, as of October 14, 2026, there is no Japan release date. This article reads it mainly against the Pro 4, which you can buy now.
The Shoe Nerd's top pick
The heart of the Pro 5 is not its weight but dropping the rods. The five rods were replaced with a rim around the edge of the sole, so everything right under your foot is foam. That is how the forefoot got 2 mm thicker yet 23 g lighter. So before the 177 g figure, I read this shoe by where the carbon sits.
Key points
- Versus the Pro 4: weight −23 g (11.5%), forefoot +2 mm, drop −2 mm. The heel stays at 39 mm
- The carbon moves from ENERGYRODS to ENERGYRIM, a first for the Adios Pro line
- US price is $275. No yen price or Japan release date yet. For races this winter, use the Pro 4
Adios Pro 5 Japan release date and price?
The Japan release date is not set. In the US it went on sale on Sep 22, 2026, at $275 / €275; there is no yen price yet. It weighs about 177 g (27.0 cm, per shoe).
adidas Japan's announcement the same day said the “domestic release is undecided.” Once it is set, members will be notified by email and other channels.

The Pro 4 figures are from adidas Japan's announcement on Sep 25, 2024. Both weights are per shoe at 27.0 cm, so you can subtract them directly.
| Adios Pro 5 | Adios Pro 4 | Difference | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight (27.0 cm) | About 177 g | 200g | −23g |
| Heel | 39mm | 39mm | 0mm |
| Forefoot | 35mm | 33mm | +2mm |
| Drop | 4mm | 6mm | −2mm |
| Carbon | ENERGYRIM | ENERGY RODS 2.0 (5 rods) | — |
| Upper | LIGHTLOCK 2.0 | LIGHTLOCK | — |
The claim is “about 12% lighter.” My own math gives 11.5% (23 ÷ 200), which rounds to 12%.
The change in stack shows this generation's thinking. The heel stays at 39 mm; only the forefoot is 2 mm thicker. Forefoot divided by heel is about 85% on the Pro 4 (33 ÷ 39) and about 90% on the Pro 5 (35 ÷ 39). The shoe's slope is gentler, and the sole is closer to flat.
How could it get thicker and lighter? The answer is where the carbon sits. In the Pro 4, five rods following your toes ran through the foam.
The Pro 5 replaces them with a rim running around the edge of the sole. That leaves more foam right under your foot, and adidas claims about 9% more energy return.
Versus the Evo 3 and EVO SL (sibling models)
Above it is the Adios Pro Evo 3, which used the same rim first. Below it is the EVO SL, a training shoe with no plate or rods.

| Model | Weight (27.0 cm) | Heel / forefoot | Drop | Status in Japan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adios Pro Evo 3 | 97g | 39 / 36mm | 3mm | Sales not set |
| Adios Pro 5 | About 177 g | 39 / 35mm | 4mm | Release not set |
| Adios Pro 4 | 200g | 39 / 33mm | 6mm | Available |
| EVO SL (training) | 224g | 38.5 / 32mm | 6.5mm | Available |
It is 80 g heavier than the Evo 3 (177 − 97). In the US the Evo 3 costs $500, and the Pro 5 is 55% of that (275 ÷ 500). Per gram, the Pro 5 is about $1.55 (275 ÷ 177) and the Evo 3 about $5.2 (500 ÷ 97), a gap of about 3.3 times.
The outsole rubber differs too. The Evo 3 only has partial rubber on the forefoot. The Pro 5 uses LIGHTTRAXION and Continental rubber, going for both grip and durability.
- You want the lightest shoe possible for one race → Evo 3 (but Japan sales are not set)
- You want the Evo 3's rim design as your everyday race shoe → Pro 5
- You are used to a 6 mm drop and want a max-cushion racer → Pro 4
- You want a daily shoe before you start racing → EVO SL

Lowest price on Rakuten is JPY 15,840 (as of 10/13), ranging up to JPY 19,800 depending on the shop. Prices change daily. Shoes are best tried on in the evening, when your feet swell, with your usual socks. Fit varies by brand, so check the return and exchange terms on the shop page before you buy.
RecommendedSee it on Super Sports XEBIOSee it on Rakuten IchibaSee it on Yahoo! Shopping JapanHow does it compare with other brands' racers at the same price?
Next to other brands' plated racers, what sets the Pro 5 apart is its low drop.
| Model | Weight | Drop | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adios Pro 5 | About 177 g | 4mm | $275 |
| Deviate Nitro Elite 4 | About 170 g | 8mm | JPY 29,700 |
| Cloudboom Strike 2 | 191g | 5mm | JPY 35,200 |
| Alphafly 4 | About 188 g | 8mm | JPY 39,600 |
All four weigh 170–191 g, a spread of just 21 g (191 − 170). The clear difference is drop: the Pro 5's 4 mm is the lowest here. It is a number that answers directly to runners who push off the forefoot.
If you land more on your heel, you could also go for an 8 mm drop with the Deviate Nitro Elite 4 or Alphafly 4.
What I like
23 g. A race shoe got more than 10% lighter in one generation, without shaving even 1 mm off the heel. The forefoot actually gained 2 mm.
Running a marathon with a 1.2 m stride, each foot leaves the ground about 17,581 times (42,195 ÷ 1.2 ÷ 2). 23 g × 17,581 is about 404 kg, the weight each foot no longer has to lift compared with the Pro 4.
The other point is how much testing went in. Over 25 athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia and the US ran in it, with long-term wear tests, making it the biggest testing program in Adizero history (per adidas's announcement).
Things to watch
The biggest issue is that you can't buy it in Japan. The domestic release has been announced as undecided. A shoe with no date can't go into a plan built backward from your race.
Next is the drop. It went from 6 mm to 4 mm, 2 mm lower. The EVO SL training shoe is 6.5 mm, so the gap widens from 0.5 mm to 2.5 mm (6.5 − 4). If you are switching from the Pro 4, treat it as a different shoe with the same name.
Who the Adios Pro 5 is for
Good fit: runners who push off the forefoot in the marathon or half. The 35 mm forefoot and low 4 mm drop match that style neatly. If you want a race shoe 10% lighter, 23 g less is a welcome number.
If you land on your heel and like a shoe with more slope, the Pro 4 with its 6 mm drop is another option.

When is the Adios Pro 5 released in Japan?
The Japan release date is not set yet (announced Sep 22, 2026). In the US it went on sale the same day for $275.
How does the Adios Pro 5 fit?
The upper and heel are new, so don't assume it fits like the Pro 4; choose once the Japan size chart is out. In the US it comes in one standard width only, with no wide. Try them on in the evening with your usual socks.
How is the Adios Pro 5 different from the Evo 3?
The differences are the foam and the outsole rubber; the rim-shaped carbon (ENERGYRIM) is shared. The Evo 3 uses LIGHTSTRIKE PRO EVO, the Pro 5 uses LIGHTSTRIKE PRO. The amount of outsole rubber also differs. Details are in my Adios Pro Evo 3 article, and a table of four shoes is in my article on adidas's 2026 releases.
