The GT-2000 15 is a stability shoe you can choose without putting up with weight, for people whose feet collapse inward on landing. The sole is about 2mm thicker than before, and it got about 20g lighter, to 252g. The 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM, which limits the collapse through the shape of the sole, handles it. Released Aug 6, 2026, 8mm drop, JPY 16,500.
The Shoe Nerd's top pick
Buy the GT-2000 15 by weight per 1mm of sole thickness. The previous generation was about 7.6g per 1mm; the 15 is about 6.6g, so the same thickness is made over 10% lighter. The premise that stability shoes are naturally heavy broke in this generation, so for a first stability pair I put this ahead of the higher-end Kayano.
Key points
- Changes from the previous generation, per the official text, are 4: about 2mm thicker, about 20g lighter, softer sole material, and a wider inner-forefoot contact area
- The gap from the Gel-Kayano 33 is 46g, 2mm and JPY 5,500. The names of the mechanisms limiting wobble differ too
- Widths are standard and wide. Men's goes up to 32.0cm
Getting thicker yet lighter does not normally happen
If you thicken the sole, the shoe gets heavier by the added material. To make it lighter, you thin or cut something somewhere. A shoe's generation change is usually one of these two.
The GT-2000 15's official release writes both in 1 sentence: the whole sole is about 2mm thicker and the weight is about 20g lighter. This article reads the content of that 1 sentence, turned into numbers.
Roles within ASICS are in the article on 11 recommended ASICS shoes, and the other 2026 new releases in the article on 6 new shoes. Here I talk only about the GT-2000 15.
GT-2000 15 weight and stack? The official numbers

The official release writes "compared with the previous model" in 4 places. From the 2 with numbers, I work back to the previous generation's picture by calculation.
| Item | 14 (calculated) | 15 | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight | About 272g | 252g | About −20g |
| Stack height | About 36mm | About 38mm | About +2mm |
| Weight per mm of thickness | About 7.6g | About 6.6g | About −0.9g |
| Midsole | FF BLAST MAX | FF BLAST MAX (tuned softer) | Stiffness changed |
| Inner-forefoot contact area | — | Widened | Area changed |
The share lighter is about 7.4% (20 ÷ 272). Per 1mm of thickness, 7.56g became 6.63g, down about 12% (0.93 ÷ 7.56). Because it is 20g on top of added thickness, the change is bigger than the weight number alone.
Let me convert 20g into marathon distance. Assume a 1m stride, and each foot leaves the ground about 21,098 times (42,195 ÷ 2). 20g × 21,098 times comes to about 422kg.
Where did it get lighter. There are 2 clues.
The upper fabric is a light, stretchy engineered woven. The sole rubber is "placed at key points," so the whole sole is not covered in rubber.
The sole changed for 2 generations in a row. Reading the 14's announcement (Jul 2025, the English release), FF BLAST MAX entered the GT-2000 from the 14. The 15 keeps that material and moves only the stiffness to the softer side.
The year after bringing in the material, they tightened the amount and stiffness. The 15 is the generation that finishes the 14.
A price difference cannot be given. The 14's suggested retail price in Japan is not in the official announcement (the English release says USD 140).
The mechanism limiting wobble is a shape, not a part
When you hear "stability shoe," you tend to picture a hard part under the arch. The GT-2000 15's 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM is not like that.
It slopes the heel and gives the sole a three-dimensional shape to limit excessive collapse of the foot. It catches by shape instead of adding something hard. That is why, I read it, it could be made 20g lighter while keeping the mechanism.
Widening the inner-forefoot contact area in the 15 is the same idea. A wide surface catches the force that escapes inward at push-off. The forefoot sole also has a hollow structure that bounces like a trampoline.
Compared with the Gel-Kayano 33 and Novablast 6
I line up the higher-end stability Gel-Kayano 33 and the Novablast 6, which is in the same price range but has a different role.
| GT-2000 15 | GEL-KAYANO 33 | NOVABLAST 6 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight | 252g | 298g | 253g |
| Stack height | About 38mm | About 40mm | About 41.5mm |
| Drop | 8mm | 8mm | 8mm |
| Official price | JPY 16,500 | JPY 22,000 | JPY 17,600 |
| Wobble-control system | 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM | FLUIDSUPPORT | None |
| Midsole | FF BLAST MAX | FF BLAST MAX on top, FF BLAST PLUS below. PureGEL in the heel | FF BLAST MAX plus FF TURBO SQUARED in the forefoot |
Difference from the Gel-Kayano 33: The gap is 46g (298 − 252), 2mm and JPY 5,500 (22,000 − 16,500). Multiply 46g by a full marathon's per-foot count and it is about 970kg (46g × 21,098 times).
What the Kayano 33 holds for that price is 3 things: a 2-layer sole with different stiffness top and bottom, PureGEL in the heel, and FLUIDSUPPORT. FLUIDSUPPORT is a mechanism that supports continuously from landing to push-off and keeps a light feel even when tired and form breaks down. Men's also has an extra-wide.
- Want a stability shoe, but want to avoid a heavy one → GT-2000 15
- Pay for support in the late full marathon, after you are tired → Kayano 33
- A man for whom even wide is not wide enough → Kayano 33 (extra wide)
ASICS GEL-KAYANO 33
Lowest price on Rakuten is JPY 15,600 (as of 10/13), ranging up to JPY 43,300 depending on the shop. Prices change daily. Shoes are best tried on in the evening, when your feet swell, with your usual socks. Fit varies by brand, so check the return and exchange terms on the shop page before you buy.
RecommendedSee it on Super Sports XEBIOSee it on Rakuten IchibaSee it on Yahoo! Shopping JapanDifference from the Novablast 6: The weight differs by only 1g. What differs is that the sole is 3.5mm thinner (41.5 − 38) and that it has a mechanism limiting wobble. Someone who knows their foot collapses inward on landing takes the GT-2000 15. Someone who does not care, with the extra thickness, the Novablast 6 makes more sense.
Below it there is also the GT-1000 15. On the official feature page, its sole is FF BLAST and it is recommended for light jogging and fitness.
What I like
It achieved "thick" and "light" together, in numbers. Of ASICS's 6 new 2026 shoes, only the GT-2000 15 did this. The other generation changes only lightened, or only swapped the material.
Keeping the stability mechanism, it reached the same weight as the Novablast 6. 252g and 253g. The shoe with the mechanism and the one without sit 1g apart. The subtraction "choosing a stability type costs you on weight" has vanished between these 2.
Strong rubber where wear is fast. The heel and forefoot soles are AHARPLUS. In the official explanation, it is a material about 3 times more resistant to wear than the old rubber. For an everyday shoe, the places that wear out first are reinforced.
Price. About JPY 65 per gram is the smallest number among the 7 ASICS shoes I compared. At 75% of the Kayano 33's price (16,500 ÷ 22,000), the official "pronation" field shows the same label.
Things to watch
Softness is 1 step below the Kayano 33. On the official "cushion" scale, the GT-2000 15 is High and the Kayano 33 is Maximum. The sole is 2mm thinner too.
The heel PureGEL is not described in the 15's release. The 14's English release named and explained the heel PureGEL. This name does not appear in the 15's Japanese release. Someone who chose by how the heel feels with PureGEL will have fewer regrets if they decide knowing this.
If you do not use the support, it becomes a thinner shoe. If the collapse does not bother you, you can choose a shoe 3.5mm thicker at the same weight.
Who is it for?
- Good fit: Someone who knows their foot collapses inward on landing and is looking for a first pair. Someone bothered by the Kayano's weight. Someone who wants 1 pair for up to a 10km or a half.
If softness comes first, the Kayano 33 fits better. If you have no complaint about the GT-2000 14, wearing it out first is still in time.
Price and where to buy
| Model | Official price | Rakuten price range |
|---|---|---|
| GT-2000 15 | JPY 16,500 | JPY 11,550–19,800 |
| GEL-KAYANO 33 | JPY 22,000 | JPY 15,600–43,300 |
| NOVABLAST 6 | JPY 17,600 | JPY 13,200–22,000 |
If the previous generation remains cheaply, there is 1 yardstick: 20g, 2mm, and the forefoot contact area. Whether you pay the price gap in the table for these 3. The mechanism limiting wobble is the same 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM in the 14, so the role itself is available with the 14.
When you buy, decide the width first. Standard and wide have separate product numbers.

How does the GT-2000 15 fit?
The clues for choosing are the size increments and the 2 widths, standard and wide.
Men's runs 24.5 to 29.0cm in 0.5cm steps, then 30.0, 31.0 and 32.0cm. Women's runs 22.5 to 26.5cm in 0.5cm steps. If your current ASICS shoes feel tight in width, the order is to look at the wide product number before going up in length.
Is there a GTX version of the GT-2000 15 for rainy days?
Yes. In this site's article on 11 ASICS shoes, I read that the official product list carries the "GT-2000 15 GTX" at JPY 19,800. The gap from the regular version is JPY 3,300, a 20% markup (3,300 ÷ 16,500).
Can the GT-2000 15 be used in a full marathon race?
By the official dividing line, race day is the Kayano 33 and the daily runs up to it are the GT-2000 15. The feature page recommends the GT-2000 15 for "everyday running through training for finishing a full marathon." Whether to go with 1 pair or split into 2 is calculated in the "Finish" row of the article on shoes by time.
