The Nike ACG Pegasus Trail is a buy for people who link pavement, gravel and dirt paths with 1 pair. About 286g in 27cm, 8mm drop, with ReactX foam in the sole, kept to a weight no different from road shoes. The Japan official terrain label is "for moderate-difficulty courses." For courses with continuous rocky ground, choose the sibling Zegama.

The Shoe Nerd's top pick

For people who run from their front door to the mountain entrance, I pick this among the 3. Nike's announcement calls this shoe the most versatile 1 in the trail lineup, citing use that moves from pavement to gravel to trail. The sole rubber is Nike's own ATC and the price is the lowest of the 3. I read it as a shoe for people who can settle that they are not buying protection for rocky ground.

Key points

  • The weight gap from the same year's road Pegasus 42 is 1g in 27cm. The drop is 2mm smaller at 8mm
  • The GORE-TEX version is about 291g in 27cm. The gap from the original is 5g, and the price becomes the same as the ACG Zegama Trail
  • The last changed to trail-specific and widened the toe area. Sizes are 13, from 24 to 30cm

Official numbers: the ACG Pegasus Trail's weight is 1g from the road version

Trail shoes are heavy because the rubber is thick. The ACG Pegasus Trail does not fit that common belief. About 286g per foot in 27cm. The same year's road Pegasus 42 is about 287g.

The numbers are what I read on Oct 13, 2026, from Nike Japan's official product page (men's). Only the release timing is taken from Nike's own announcement of Feb 24.

Going up 1cm from 27cm to 28cm adds 19g (305 − 286). That is about 6.6% (19 ÷ 286). You can estimate the weight at your own size from this spread.

Pegasus Trail 5 compared: sole and last changed from the previous generation

First, the name. In its announcement of Feb 2, 2026, Nike wrote that it would move Nike Trail to ACG (All Conditions Gear). That is why ACG is attached to the front of "Pegasus Trail."

Combining the announcement and the product page, the changes to the contents are 4.

PlaceOfficial descriptionSource
Midsole foamMore ReactX than before, and a higher soleOfficial Japan site
Outsole rubberA new sole shape, and All Terrain Compound 2.0 with more grip in wet placesAnnouncement
Last (shoe form)Updated to a trail-specific last. Widened the toe area and added room to the foot-placement surface tooAnnouncement
Upper and toeEngineered mesh that drains water easily. Rubber wrapped around the toe to protect itAnnouncement

The last is the foot-shaped mold put inside when a shoe is made. The reason for widening the toe is that the foot is less likely to feel cramped on climbs and descents. On descents the foot slides forward, so toe room means more than on the road.

For people unsure about owning 1 pair each for road and mountain paths, the gap from the same year's road Pegasus 42 decides it. In the numbers I read in this site's article on Nike's 6 new 2026 shoes, the 42 is about 287g in 27cm, about 300g in 28cm, and a 10mm drop.

  • Weight (27cm): 287 − 286 = 1g. The trail side is lighter
  • Weight (28cm): 305 − 300 = 5g. Here the trail side is heavier
  • Drop: 10 − 8 = 2mm. The trail side is smaller

Adding the toe rubber and trail sole, the weight has barely moved. The fineness of this generation's build shows in staying within this number while writing that it added foam.

ACG Zegama and Ultrafly compared: siblings split by amount of protection

ACG has 3 running shoes. The names line up, but the sole parts, rubber and drop all differ.

Nike Japan official listing of Oct 13, 2026 (men's, tax included). The Zegama's rock plate is the description in Nike's announcement (Dec 2, 2025).

The Zegama is 29g heavier than this shoe (315 − 286) and 1.51 times the price (27,060 ÷ 17,930). What that gap buys is ZoomX, Vibram rubber, a rock plate that protects the sole from rocks, and stretchy fabric around the ankle.

The Ultrafly is, conversely, 10g lighter (286 − 276). But the price gap is JPY 18,150 (36,080 − 17,930). That works out to about JPY 1,815 to save 1g; it is not a shoe you buy for lightness but for the carbon plate and ZoomX.

  • Forest roads, park dirt paths, low mountains you run to from home → Pegasus Trail
  • Courses with continuous rocks and roots, races with long descents → Zegama Trail. Just know first that the drop falls 4mm
  • Chasing placing or time in trail races → Ultrafly Trail
  • If the goal is a race with rocky ground, better not the Pegasus Trail. Go with the Zegama Trail, which has a rock plate in the forefoot

What I like

The best thing is a build that counts the pavement to and from the trail. The announcement says it is a shoe that can move from pavement to gravel, trail, and the terrain beyond. A weight only 1g different from a road shoe agrees with that description and the numbers.

Second is price. It is the lowest of the 3, and the gap from the road Pegasus 42 is only JPY 330 (17,930 − 17,600). Trail rubber and toe protection come at nearly the same price.

Third is ease of fitting. With a last widened at the toe area, men's comes in 13 sizes, and there is a waterproof GORE-TEX version on the same last. Of the 3, only this shoe gets this far.

Things to watch

The terrain label is "for moderate-difficulty courses." The label draws a line against the Zegama's "high difficulty."

The reason shows in the parts. The rubber is Nike's own ATC, not Vibram. The rock plate that protects the sole from rocks is a Zegama part.

The GORE-TEX version costs JPY 9,130 more (27,060 − 17,930). That is exactly the same price as the Zegama. Pay for waterproofing or for protection on rocky ground. The same money sends you somewhere entirely different.

Who is it for?

  • Good fit: someone looking for a first trail pair. Someone who wants to enter dirt paths at a weight close to the road Pegasus. Someone who runs courses that are half pavement and half mountain path
  • Good fit: someone who often runs in rain or morning dew and also wants the waterproof version on the same last

For races with continuous rocky ground or long descents, the Zegama fits better. For road only, the Pegasus 42, which also has cheaper and wide versions, is the shortcut.

How to buy splits in 2. For wide toe room and the new rubber, the current generation with ACG. The "Pegasus Trail 5" without ACG in the name is the previous generation, only what remains in stores.

If you choose the previous generation, do so knowing the toe area is the last from before it widened. Whether your size remains comes first, so look at whether there is a size that fits before the color you want.

FAQ

Does the ACG Pegasus Trail fit the same as the road Pegasus?

You cannot say it is the same. The last was updated to be trail-specific, and the toe area widened.

Men's runs 24 to 30cm in 0.5cm steps, 13 sizes. Someone who needs 30.5cm or 31cm goes to the GORE-TEX version, which runs 24 to 31cm.

How many g heavier is the ACG Pegasus Trail GORE-TEX version?

In 27cm it is about 291g, only 5g heavier than the original version (291 − 286). In 28cm it is about 303g, listed 2g lighter than the original's about 305g. Both are the product page numbers as they are.

In other words, adding the waterproof membrane barely changes the weight. What changes is the price, a JPY 9,130 gap. Decide by how often you run in rain and morning dew.

How do the ACG Pegasus Trail and the Pegasus Trail 5 differ?

3 places: sole foam, sole rubber and last. It added more ReactX to raise the sole, the rubber is All Terrain Compound 2.0, and the last widened the toe area.

Can the ACG Pegasus Trail be used in trail races?

For races centered on forest roads and well-kept mountain paths, yes. The official terrain label goes up to moderate difficulty. In long races, mandatory gear is set as well as shoes, so I lined up the items in the article on mandatory gear for 4 trail races.

For races with lots of rocky ground or 100km class, it is the Zegama, labeled "high difficulty." The differences among the 3 are written 1 pair at a time in the ACG Zegama Trail article and the ACG Ultrafly Trail article.
