Paagoworks RUSH 7R ReviewAbout 6.5L and 290g, the 2026 model is 1L smaller and 10g lighter

The RUSH 7R is Paagoworks' trail race vest remade in 2026. What decides it: about 6.5L and about 290g, taking chests of 70–100cm in one size. Two 600ml soft flasks fit in the front pockets, enough for races whose gear stops at a rain jacket.

RUSH 7R weight and capacity? The official numbers (capacity dropped in the model change)

The Paagoworks RUSH 7R is a buy for people who use it for mid-distance trails where the mandatory gear stops at a rain jacket, and for long training runs without water. What decides it: about 6.5L and about 290g, and a fit that takes 70–100cm chests in one.

Capacity is 1L less than the 2023 model's 7.5L. If you buy thinking the 7 in the name is the capacity, you are 0.5L short.

The named pockets are 5 kinds: bottle, snack, side, bottom and hydration. Besides these, there is a main compartment that opens with the center zipper, with 1 small-item pocket inside.

On the same day, all three colors showed as available in the official store.

RUSH 7R vs the 2023 model: 1L less, 10g lighter, JPY 2,200 more

The official store still has a page for the RUSH 7R (2023 model). I subtracted the same items.

The price rise is 11.1% (2,200 ÷ 19,800). Divided by capacity, both weight and price per liter are bigger in the new model. On the numbers, it is a model change that got pricier.

So what did they spend money on? The feature page lists 3 changes.

• Side adjustment: the 2023 model only had the waist draw cord. The new one adds a 6-point bungee cord. The waist cord can be pulled with one hand.
• Chest buckle: it became an in-house-designed twist-fastening form (PGW TWIST LOCK). The strap material was also changed to a softer one on the skin.
• Fabric: the harness face that touches the body became mono mesh. The official says heat is less likely to build up.

The pocket description changed too. The 2023 model's page counted the harness pockets as "12" and listed a small upper pocket and an inner pocket. The new page says the capacity of the lower snack pocket was increased.

In short, it is a model that cut 1L from the back bag and rebuilt how it fastens to the body. It worked on bounce and re-tightening more than on load.

vs the RUSH 3R, 11R and 15R (sibling models)

Going from the 7R to the 11R adds 5.5L and 50g (12 − 6.5, 340 − 290). Capacity becomes 1.85 times, while weight is 1.17 times (12 ÷ 6.5, 340 ÷ 290).

The gap to the 3R below is 3L and 60g. The official descriptions: the 3R is for "short races," the 7R "middle races," and the 11R and 15R "ultra trail."

• Mid-distance races where you carry up to a rain jacket and food, long training on roads with no water → 7R
• Only water, gels and a thin jacket. Short races with heavy sweating → 3R
• You already see ahead a race where you carry rain top and bottom plus insulation → don't choose the 7R. Take the 11R or 15R. For a 50g gap, the back bag is about twice the size

The 11R has 3 things the 7R lacks: a top pocket for a headlamp, a holder to pass poles through, and a main compartment that opens from the top. Gear for races that run through the night is gathered on the 11R's side. The differences are in the RUSH 11R article.

What I like

What I would praise most is the fit. The shoulders change length steplessly with Velcro, and the sides tighten with 6-point bungee cords. The markers for whether it fits are clear too.

• With the load in and the buckle fastened, the upper and lower chest straps are the same length
• The bottom of the harness is level

They are markers you can see in a mirror, not numbers on a size chart. Even bought by mail order, you can readjust at home.

The range it takes is wide. Salomon's S/LAB ULTRA 12 goes XS to L in 6cm steps on its official size chart (XS 85–91cm, S 91–97cm). The RUSH 7R takes 70–100cm, 30cm, in one. The width of Salomon's 5 sizes (30 ÷ 6) is covered by one. At the low end, it reaches 15cm below Salomon's XS lower limit (85 − 70).

The fabric build also makes sense. The body is a stretch mesh that stretches in one direction only. It stretches sideways to wrap the load and resists stretching vertically. Since the load bounces up and down when you run, the direction that stops the stretch is set vertically. It shrinks on days with little load and widens on days with a lot.

At 500km a month, days on roads with no water increase. So I read a vest by how many ml I can hold at the front before the back's capacity. The 7R is 1.2L with two 600ml (600 × 2). The front pockets alone clear the line of races that make 1L mandatory.

Things to watch

No bottles are included. The accessories are only the bungee cord and cord lock. Salomon's ACTIVE SKIN 8, as I read in our article on 12 packs and vests, comes with two 500ml flasks and has a lower official price. The 7R adds the cost of buying flasks separately.

For poles, you attach the separately sold RUSH POLE HOLDER to loops (2 on top, 1 below). The holder is about 60g. With it, 290 + 60 = 350g, the same weight as the 15R body.

The upper limit is a 100cm chest. Salomon's M covers 97–103cm and the XL goes up to 118cm. For people with chests over 100cm, it is outside the official guide.

Capacity is 1L smaller than the 2023 model. Gear that fit the previous model exactly may not go in. Anyone replacing should check this first.

Is the RUSH 7R enough for 50km? Who does it suit?

Based on capacity and the items in our article on the mandatory gear of 4 trail races, I will state it scene by scene.

• Long road training: enough. Water 1.2L at the front and a jacket and fuel at the back, and there is still room
• Trails up to 50km: enough if the mandatory gear stops at a rain jacket. For races that specify rain pants and insulation, about 6.5L is not enough
• 100km trails: not enough. The Mt.FUJI 100 has 19 items, including rain top and bottom, insulation, 2 lights and spare batteries. Look at the 15R
• Commuting runs: the 3rd dimension is 110mm, so for documents a separate bag is easier

It suits people whose chest falls within 70–100cm and who are always torn between S and M. People whose clothing thickness changes with the season. For people who want to run with water right after buying, or finish up to 100km with one, there are other ways to choose.

If you have no complaints about the 2023 7R, you have time to use it up. The new model is 1L smaller.

Price and where to buy

You can also buy at dealers and online shops. What to check then is the generation. Shop product names sometimes do not write the year. Tell them apart by color name. The 2026 model is Midnight, Sand Storm and Foggy Blue; the 2023 model is Shadow Gray, Glacier Silver and Alpine Blue.

There is a reason to choose the 2023 model too. It is 1L bigger and the official price is lower. If you will not use the 6-point side bungee and the new buckle, it is a sensible buy.

FAQ

How does the RUSH 7R fit?

There is no size to choose. The official guide is a 70–100cm chest, one size. You fit it with the shoulder Velcro and the side bungee cords.

Check with 2 markers: with the load in and the buckle fastened, are the upper and lower chest straps the same length? Is the bottom of the harness level? Too long or too short leads to bounce and chafing.

How much water does the RUSH 7R hold?

Up to 1.2L from the front alone. The front bottle pockets are sized for soft flasks up to 600ml or a 500ml PET bottle. Two give up to 1.2L. On the back there is a hydration pocket separate from the main compartment, and the hose can come out over the shoulder.

No bottle or reservoir is included. To carry the 2L or more that the Hasetsune CUP recommends, you add a back reservoir to the front 1.2L.

How does the 2026 RUSH 7R differ from the 2023 model? Which should I buy?

Decide by load, the 2023 model; decide by how it fastens to the body, the 2026 model. The former is 7.5L and JPY 2,200 lower officially. The latter is about 6.5L, 10g lighter, and adds 6 side bungee points, a twist-lock buckle and a mono-mesh harness.

If you plan to add a pole holder, the new one is quicker. The 2026 model's product page lists which loops to attach to.
