I run 500 km a month, my marathon best is under 2:30, and I made these picks. This is my conclusion as of Oct 28, 2026. The Mizuno I look at first is the Wave Rider 30 (JPY 18,700, about 265 g) for daily training. For a day that rests the legs, the SKY PRIME. For plated race shoes, one of the four HYPERWARP.
The Shoe Nerd's top pick
If you are unsure with Mizuno, pick the Wave Rider 30. It meets the three things a daily trainer needs in one shoe: JPY 18,700, about 265 g, and a choice from standard 2E to a 4E-equivalent super-wide. The midsole is 6 mm thicker at the forefoot and 4 mm at the heel than the last generation, and the drop falls from 10 mm to 8 mm. The other five have clear jobs, so none of them is a training workhorse.
Key points
- No. 1: Wave Rider 30, JPY 18,700, about 265 g. Offered in 2 widths: 2E and 4E equivalent
- No. 2: SKY PRIME, heel 47 mm and forefoot 41 mm, the thickest midsole in Mizuno's SKY line. JPY 24,200
- All 4 HYPERWARP shoes have a 3.0 mm drop. The JPY 22,000 Racer is the entry point to plated shoes; the JPY 18,700 Pacer is a plateless trainer
Mizuno has put out six running shoes with different jobs this year alone: a daily trainer, a thick-midsole recovery shoe, and the four HYPERWARP shoes.
This article lines up official prices, weights and stack heights and decides which to pick for each use.
What should I use to choose among Mizuno running shoes?
I used three measures: (1) official price, (2) weight (27.0 cm, one shoe) and (3) midsole thickness (heel / forefoot). On top of that I asked whether the shoe works for daily training, and ranked by that. It is not a sales ranking.
At 500 km a month, training eats shoes. So I decide the training shoe before the race shoe. That is why No. 1 is a trainer.

| Rank and shoe | Official price | Weight | Stack (forefoot / heel) | Reason (one sentence) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No. 1 Wave Rider 30 | JPY 18,700 | About 265g | 34.5 / 42.5mm | A price and weight that work for daily training, with two widths to choose from |
| No. 2 SKY PRIME | JPY 24,200 | About 295g | 41 / 47mm | The thickest midsole in the SKY line, suited to easy days for the legs |
| No. 3 HYPERWARP Racer | JPY 22,000 | About 200g | 34.0 / 37.0mm | The cheapest plated shoe, easy to start with |
| No. 4 HYPERWARP Pacer | JPY 18,700 | About 205g | 32.5 / 35.5mm | No plate, but the same angle as the race shoe for training |
| No. 5 HYPERWARP Elite 2 | JPY 29,700 | About 160g | 36.0 / 39.0mm | A balance of weight and thickness for sub-3 hopefuls |
| No. 6 HYPERWARP Pure 2 | JPY 35,200 | About 135g | 35.0 / 38.0mm | Built around lightness, so its uses are narrow |

Best by measure: weight, thickness, price
- Lightest: Pure 2 (about 135 g). It is 70 g lighter than the Pacer (about 205 g): 205 − 135.
- Thickest: SKY PRIME (47 mm at the heel). Its heel is 4.5 mm thicker than the Wave Rider 30 (47 − 42.5).
- Cheapest: Wave Rider 30 and the Pacer (both JPY 18,700).
What the Numbers Say About Running Style and Pace
This is a read from the official numbers and the build. The Wave Rider 30 has an 8 mm drop, a build that suits landing on the heel and rolling through. The four HYPERWARP shoes have a 3.0 mm drop, which I read as suiting a landing nearer the forefoot.
For pace, I start with the ranges Mizuno gave the HYPERWARP shoes: the Racer is for 3 to 4 hours in the marathon, the Elite 2 for under 3 hours. Mizuno gives no pace range for the Wave Rider 30 or SKY PRIME. I read them as jogs through to a few training runs a week.
No. 1 Wave Rider 30: the shoe that carries daily training
Why this rank: JPY 18,700 and about 265 g, in standard 2E-equivalent or a 4E-equivalent super-wide. The wave-shaped plate, MIZUNO WAVE, reaches the toes for the first time in the series.
Against the 29, the midsole is 6 mm thicker at the forefoot and 4 mm at the heel, and the drop changed from 10 mm to 8 mm. The weight is the same, about 265 g. Mizuno says cushioning is up about 17% and rebound about 19%.
Watch out: The super-wide comes in 25.0 to 29.0 cm. If your feet are large, check the size first.

No. 2 SKY PRIME: a thick midsole for easy days
Why this rank: Heel 47 mm and forefoot 41 mm is the thickest midsole in Mizuno's SKY line. The top layer is the new ENERZY NXT+ and the bottom is ENERZY NXT, two layers that take the landing. The footprint is wide, about 125 mm at its widest in 27.0 cm.
Watch out: At about 295 g it is 30 g heavier than the Wave Rider 30 (295 − 265). The price is JPY 24,200, JPY 5,500 more (24,200 − 18,700).

The thickness numbers are in the SKY PRIME review.
No. 3 HYPERWARP Racer: the way in to plated shoes
Why this rank: Of the three plated shoes it is the cheapest at JPY 22,000, and about 200 g. The carbon plate runs the full length and is built less stiff than the upper models. Mizuno aims it at marathoners running 3 to 4 hours. It goes on sale Dec 10, 2026.
Watch out: It is 40 g heavier than the Elite 2 (200 − 160) and JPY 7,700 cheaper (29,700 − 22,000).
Mizuno HYPERWARP RACER (out Dec 10)
Pre-release: available from Dec 10The Racer review works out the gap to the Elite 2 with formulas.
No. 4 HYPERWARP Pacer: a plateless training shoe
Why this rank: JPY 18,700 with no plate. The drop is 3.0 mm, so the angle matches the HYPERWARP you race in. At about 205 g, it is only 5 g heavier than the Racer. It goes on sale Dec 10.
Watch out: The midsole is 32.5 mm at the forefoot and 35.5 mm at the heel, on the thin side of the six. If you want cushioning first, No. 1 and No. 2 suit you better.
Mizuno HYPERWARP PACER (out Dec 10)
Pre-release: available from Dec 10No. 5 and 6 Elite 2 and Pure 2: two shoes for sub-3 hopefuls
Why this rank: The Elite 2 is JPY 29,700 and about 160 g, with a plate between two layers of different foam. The Pure 2 is JPY 35,200 and about 135 g, with ENERZY XP+ throughout. The gap between them is 25 g and JPY 5,500 (35,200 − 29,700), or JPY 220 per gram (5,500 ÷ 25). Both go on sale Nov 6.
Watch out: At these prices both assume you already own a training shoe. Neither is an everyday workhorse.

About the writer and sources
I run about 500km a month, have a sub-2:30 marathon, and also race trail runs and triathlons. I am a shoe nerd.
I re-read the numbers for the four HYPERWARP shoes on Mizuno's official feature page on Oct 28, 2026. The Wave Rider 30's weight and thickness and the SKY PRIME's thickness were re-read the same day in Mizuno's press releases. The SKY PRIME's weight and two of the prices are from Mizuno's online store as shown on Oct 18. Last updated: Oct 28, 2026.
FAQ
What is the sizing of Mizuno running shoes?
The Wave Rider 30, SKY PRIME and HYPERWARP are listed in standard width (2E equivalent). Only the Wave Rider 30 also comes in a 4E-equivalent super-wide (25.0 to 29.0 cm). With my 25.0 cm foot, I would start from the same 25.0 cm as my usual shoes and check the width in a store.
How do the four Mizuno HYPERWARP shoes differ?
3 of them have a plate: the Racer, Elite 2 and Pure 2. The Pacer has none. Prices run from JPY 18,700 to JPY 35,200, and weights from about 205 g down to about 135 g. All 4 have a drop of 3.0 mm.
How does the Wave Rider 30 differ from the SKY PRIME?
The SKY PRIME has a thicker midsole: 47 mm at the heel and 41 mm at the forefoot, against 42.5 mm and 34.5 mm for the Wave Rider 30. They weigh about 295 g and about 265 g, so the SKY PRIME is 30 g heavier and JPY 5,500 more (24,200 − 18,700).
