The HYPERBOOST EDGE is a training shoe for runners who want one thick-soled pair to carry them through daily jogs and long distances. Heel 45mm, forefoot 39mm, and 255g in men's 27.0cm; its light weight for the thickness is the deciding point. The drop is 6mm, with no carbon plate or rod. Released Mar 17, 2026.
The Shoe Nerd's top pick
This shoe's value is in the 39mm forefoot. The same thickness as the Adios Pro 4's heel sits under the toes. Because it's built that way without a plate at 255g, I look at this first among adidas training shoes.
Key points
- The 45mm heel is 6.5mm thicker than the EVO SL, with a weight gap of 31g. Weight per mm of thickness is about 5.7g, the lowest of the 4 siblings
- 5mm over World Athletics' road limit of 40mm. Not a shoe for races where you're chasing a record or a placing
- The LIGHTTRAXION outsole rubber covers the sole from heel to toe. It holds down the weight of a thick training shoe with the methods used for race shoes
HYPERBOOST EDGE stack and weight? The official numbers
Thick training shoes often have a heel around 40mm. The HYPERBOOST EDGE is 45mm. First, here are the numbers from adidas Japan's announcement of Mar 6, 2026.
| Item | Official numbers |
|---|---|
| Release date | Mar 17, 2026 |
| Price | JPY 24,200 (incl. tax) |
| Weight | 255g (men's 27.0cm, one shoe) |
| Stack height | Heel 45mm / forefoot 39mm |
| Drop | 6mm |
| Plate / rod | None |
| Colors / model numbers | 3 colors. Men's KI1913 / women's KI1916 |
Drop is the difference between heel and forefoot stack (45 − 39 = 6mm). There are 3 materials: HYPERBOOST PRO foam in the sole, PRIMEWEAVE, a woven fabric, for the upper, and LIGHTTRAXION for the outsole rubber.
adidas names 2 kinds of target users: people just starting to run who are looking for a first pair, and fast runners who want a jogging shoe.

It's a new line with no number in the name, so I compare it with the Ultraboost 5, which carries the same BOOST name. The numbers are the official Japan ones I read for our adidas 2026 new shoes article.
| HYPERBOOST EDGE | Ultraboost 5 | Difference | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heel | 45mm | 31mm | +14mm |
| Forefoot | 39mm | 21mm | +18mm |
| Drop | 6mm | 10mm | −4mm |
| Weight | 255g (27cm) | 244g (24cm) | Different conditions |
The heel is 14mm thicker and the forefoot 18mm thicker. The forefoot grew more, so the drop is 4mm smaller. Even with the same BOOST name, the sole shape is completely different.
The foam's origins differ too. adidas Japan's announcement explains HYPERBOOST PRO as a new foam built from the foam know-how accumulated in Adizero race shoes.
vs the EVO SL, Boston 13 and GTX
There are 3 shoes to compare: the waterproof HYPERBOOST GTX, the Adizero training shoe EVO SL, and the Boston 13 with rods.
| Model | Weight (27cm) | Heel / forefoot | Weight per millimeter |
|---|---|---|---|
| HYPERBOOST EDGE | 255g | 45 / 39mm | About 5.7g |
| Adizero EVO SL | 224g | 38.5 / 32mm | About 5.8g |
| Adizero Boston 13 | 255g | 36 / 30mm | About 7.1g |
| HYPERBOOST GTX | 283g | 38 / 32mm | About 7.4g |
The interesting relationship is with the Boston 13. The weight is the same 255g. And yet the Edge's heel is 9mm thicker (45 − 36).
Compared with the EVO SL, it is 31g heavier (255 − 224), with a heel 6.5mm thicker and a forefoot 7mm thicker (39 − 32).
- Runners who put thickness first, or who have many slow long days → HYPERBOOST EDGE
- Runners who put lightness first, or who use the same shoe on fast days → EVO SL
- Runners who want a shoe with rods and also want to race → Boston 13
- A shoe for rainy days → HYPERBOOST GTX. But it is a different shoe, with a heel 7mm thinner and 28g heavier
adidas Adizero EVO SL
Lowest price on Rakuten is JPY 15,840 (as of 10/13), ranging up to JPY 19,800 depending on the shop. Prices change daily. Shoes are best tried on in the evening, when your feet swell, with your usual socks. Fit varies by brand, so check the return and exchange terms on the shop page before you buy.

The first is lightness for the thickness. The "weight per mm" in the table above is the lowest of the 4. It is about the same level as the EVO SL, said to be the lightest Adizero training shoe. It kept that level while stacking 45mm.
The second is the 39mm forefoot. The race-day Adios Pro 4 has a 39mm heel. On the Edge, that thickness sits under the toes. It is shaped so the thick foam reaches not only runners who land on the heel but also those who land farther forward.
The third is the outsole rubber. LIGHTTRAXION is rubber laid on a thin, light base, and it covers the sole from heel to toe. The announcement says the idea came from the soles of race shoes.
Thick training shoes tend to carry heavy outsole rubber, and they trimmed that using the methods of race shoes.
There is data behind it, too. In a 60-person study adidas ran with the University of Cologne, 73% backed the rebound and 77% felt the softness, the announcement says. In people out of 60, that's about 44 and about 46 (60 × 0.73, 60 × 0.77).
Things to watch
The 45mm heel is 5mm over World Athletics' road limit of 40mm. It is not a shoe for chasing records or placings at races run under World Athletics rules. Where the rule measures is covered in the article on 10 thick-soled carbon shoes.
It weighs 255g, 31g more than the EVO SL. In a full marathon at a 1.2m stride, each foot leaves the ground about 17,581 times (42,195 ÷ 1.2 ÷ 2).
31g × 17,581 times comes to about 545kg. That is the weight you lift in exchange for the thickness.
Who is it for?
It suits: runners who want to get through daily jogs and long distances in one plateless shoe. It also works as a first pair for people just starting to run. It is good, too, for runners who keep a separate race shoe and want a shoe for slow days.
If you choose by lightness, the EVO SL, 31g lighter, fits better. If the EVO SL doesn't bother you, you have time to wear it out first (the difference is 6.5mm of thickness).

Per gram, it is about the same level as the EVO SL.
At launch it was sold by lottery in the adidas app. Entries ran from Mar 6 to 17. The Swedish subsidiary's announcement says more colors would be added from May 1. On Rakuten, the price changes by color and size.

Does the HYPERBOOST EDGE have a plate?
No. The Swedish subsidiary's announcement says so. Of the 4 I compared, the one with rods is the Boston 13, with its fiberglass rods. The model numbers are separate: KI1913 for men's and KI1916 for women's.
Can the HYPERBOOST EDGE be used in marathons?
In races run under World Athletics rules, the 45mm heel is 5mm over the 40mm road limit. That rule applies as-is to races run under World Athletics rules. How it is treated at citizen marathons is written in each race's entry guide.
How does the HYPERBOOST EDGE differ from the GTX?
The difference is the sole; the GTX is not just a waterproof version. The GTX is 283g with a 38mm heel and a 32mm forefoot: 28g heavier than the Edge, with a heel 7mm thinner. Choose it as a different shoe that happens to share the name. The full adidas lineup is in our adidas 2026 new shoes article.
