The HOKA Clifton PRO is a buy for people who want to keep the Clifton's height but move a daily shoe toward the forward-driving side. The deciding point is that it keeps the 42mm heel and 8mm drop the same as the 11 while switching to a rebounding SCF foam and a strongly curved sole. Released Jul 10, 2026, JPY 22,000, 296g in men's 28cm.
The Shoe Nerd's top pick
The PRO's 14g is not a defect but a weight with a stated use. The announcement's sole field has 2 rows the Clifton 11 lacks, "Durabrasion rubber" and "Podular." For a shoe you wear daily to build distance, the sole lasting matters more than lightness. So I choose the 14g-heavier one for daily use.
Key points
- The same 42/34mm and 8mm as the Clifton 11. Weight up 5.0%, price up 11.1%
- PROGLIDE+ is a combination of SCF foam and a strongly curved meta-rocker. This shoe is the first to carry it
- Wide is 3 of 7 colors. No extra wide is listed, and only some stores carry it
Clifton PRO official numbers | 296g, 42/34mm, 8mm drop, JPY 22,000
The Clifton PRO is a buy for people who want a daily shoe that rolls forward at the Clifton's height. The deciding point is that at the same stack and drop, it switched to a rebounding foam and a strongly curved sole.
You tend to think shoes named "PRO" get lighter, but the PRO is 14g heavier than the original Clifton 11. I trace where that weight goes from the rows of the announcement.
Numbers from the announcement HOKA's Japanese subsidiary (Deckers Japan) issued on Jul 10, 2026.

HOKA Clifton PRO
Lowest price on Rakuten is JPY 19,800 (as of 10/13), ranging up to JPY 22,000 depending on the shop. Prices change daily. Shoes are best tried on in the evening, when your feet swell, with your usual socks. Fit varies by brand, so check the return and exchange terms on the shop page before you buy.

The Clifton PRO has no previous generation. The announcement writes that it evolved "based on the CLIFTON series," a "new chapter" of the series. So in place of a previous generation, I set the base Clifton 11, released 9 days earlier.
| Clifton 11 | Clifton PRO | Difference | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight (men's 28cm) | 282g | 296g | +14g (+5.0%) |
| Weight (women's 24.5cm) | 236g | 242g | +6g (+2.5%) |
| Price | JPY 19,800 | JPY 22,000 | +JPY 2,200 (+11.1%) |
| Per gram | About JPY 70 | About JPY 74 | +JPY 4 |
| Stack / drop | Same (42/34mm, 8mm) | — | |
| Foam | Molded EVA | SCF foam | Different material |
| Sole curve | Smooth MetaRocker | Updated rocker | A different shape |
| Outsole rubber | Durable wear-resistant rubber | Durabrasion rubber, Podular | A different name and placement |
Weight rose 5.0% and price 11.1%, so the price rose at a rate over 2 times as large (11.1 ÷ 5.0 = 2.2). If it were just the added material, the 2 percentages should be close. Most of the difference is paid for the kind of material, not the amount.
PROGLIDE+ is a mechanism that swaps foam and curve as a set
According to the announcement, PROGLIDE+, carried for the first time on the PRO, is a combination of 2 parts: the rebounding SCF foam and an "aggressive meta-rocker."
The meta-rocker curves the sole like a boat's bottom, so that instead of folding at the base of the toes it rolls. The Clifton 11's field says "smooth" and the PRO's "aggressive." With the same stack and drop, a stronger curve starts the roll earlier.
With a stronger curve, a soft foam would let the sole collapse and the shape escape, so it is paired with a foam that has rebound. It is a mechanism that absorbs landing impact while promoting forward drive and supporting a steady cadence.
Where the 14g goes: the sole rubber
Look at the sole field. The Clifton 11 has 1 row, "durable wear-resistant rubber outsole." The PRO has 2 rows, "Durabrasion rubber outsole" and "Podular outsole design."
Durabrasion is the name of a HOKA rubber that also appears in the 2023 Clifton 9 announcement. Podular is a layout that places rubber in small sections. For the PRO, the announcement writes "adopts a highly durable structure and quality materials."
Siblings compared | Mach 7, Mach X 3 and Clifton 11
When you look for a "fast-day shoe" at HOKA, besides the PRO, the 2 Mach shoes come up as candidates.
Scroll the table sideways →
| Model | Weight | Drop | Price | Who should pick which |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clifton PRO | 296g | 8mm | JPY 22,000 | Build distance at the Clifton's height |
| Clifton 11 | 282g | 8mm | JPY 19,800 | A first pair. Need an extra wide |
| Mach 7 | 237g | 5mm | JPY 17,600 | Choose a fast-day shoe by lightness |
| Mach X 3 | 288g | 5mm | JPY 25,300 | Want a plated shoe from training |
The gap from the Mach 7 is 59g (296 − 237). In marathon distance, at a 1m stride each foot lands about 21,098 times, so 59g × 21,098 times = a gap of about 1,245kg. On lightness alone, the PRO has no chance.
What the PRO has instead is the 8mm drop and a 42mm heel. The 2 Machs are 5mm, and for a foot that has worn the Clifton, a 3mm gap feels like a different shoe (8 − 5). The PRO lets you change only the sole's contents without changing that feel.
It differs from the Mach X 3 by only 8g (296 − 288). The PRO is JPY 3,300 cheaper (25,300 − 22,000). Choose between them by whether there is a plate, and the drop of 5mm versus 8mm.
- Have worn the Clifton. Want to keep the same height and move a daily shoe toward forward drive → Clifton PRO
- A first HOKA. Not yet decided how fast you run → Clifton 11
- Want to make fast days with a light shoe. Also want to keep the price down → Mach 7
- Buying thinking "it's a PRO so it must be light" → better not the PRO
HOKA Mach
Lowest price on Rakuten Ichiba: JPY 13,900 (as of 10/13). Some shops ask up to JPY 17,600. Prices change daily. The surest way to try shoes is in the evening, when your feet swell, with your usual socks. Fit varies by brand, so check the shop's return and exchange terms before you buy.

The cleverest thing is that the stack and drop are exactly the same as the Clifton 11. Upper models usually change thickness, curve and plate and become a different shoe, but the PRO did not change the sense of heel height by even 1mm, swapping only the foam, curve and rubber.
So the barrier to switching is low. The size lineup is the same as the Clifton 11 too, so the size that fit in the 11 can serve as your baseline as is.
For a JPY 2,200 gap, 3 things swap: foam, curve and sole rubber. That is about JPY 733 per part for 1 parts (2,200 ÷ 3). Among HOKA's new releases this year, it is the shoe with the most changed for the extra money.
In smaller sizes, the weight gap shrinks too. The gap in women's 24.5cm is 6g, under half the 14g of men's 28cm. The price gap is the same JPY 2,200 for men and women, so the smaller your foot, the less weight you carry in exchange for choosing the PRO.
Things to watch
296g is not a light shoe. Among HOKA's current road models, it is on the heavy side for a plateless shoe. It is only 1g different from the Bondi 9's 297g.
Wide is in 3 of 7 colors for both men and women, 43% (3 ÷ 7). The Clifton 11 has wide in every color, so for people who choose by width the shelf is narrower.
The stores that carry it are "some." Whether you can try it on at a nearby store, check on the official retailer list before you buy.
One more thing. It is a new branch, so there is no previous generation to compare. It is a shoe where the tactic of buying last year's model cheap is not available.
Who is it for?
- Have worn the Clifton and want to try a different sole at the same height
- Build distance in a daily shoe. Take the sole lasting over lightness
- A plateless shoe that is only soft is not enough
If lightness comes first, the Mach 7, 59g lighter, fits better. If you need an extra wide, there are other ways to choose. If you bought the Clifton 11 this year, switching after the sole wears down is still in time.
Price and where to buy
| Model | Official price | Rakuten price range |
|---|---|---|
| Clifton PRO | JPY 22,000 | JPY 19,800–22,000 |
| Clifton 11 | JPY 19,800 | JPY 17,325–22,000 |
| Mach 7 | JPY 17,600 | JPY 13,900–17,600 |
When you buy, look at whether the product name has "PRO." Some items share color names with the Clifton 11 (such as the BLACK family), which are hard to tell apart from photos alone. If you need wide, match the "WIDE" marking and color names against the 3 colors in the announcement.
Men's wide: COSMIC GREY / BLACK, BLACK / COSMIC GREY, VARSITY NAVY / SOFT COBALT. Women's: COSMIC GREY / NEON YUZU, BLACK / COSMIC GREY, FADED NAVY / GLIMMERING BLUE.

How does the Clifton PRO fit? Is the same size as the 11 fine?
You can choose the same size. The size lineup in the announcement is exactly the same as the Clifton 11 (men's 25.0 to 29.0cm and 30cm, women's 22.0 to 26.5cm). What differs is width: the PRO has 2, regular and wide, and the wide comes in only 3 colors for both men and women. Someone wearing the 11's extra wide has no equivalent width in the PRO.
Does the Clifton PRO have a carbon plate?
No. The announcement's technology field has no row for a plate. The midsole field has only 2 rows: "ProGlide midsole" and "updated rocker geometry." It is a shoe that creates forward motion through foam rebound and sole curve, not a plate. The HOKA daily shoes with plates are the Mach X 3 and Skyward X 2 written up in the article on 12 HOKA shoes.
How do the Clifton PRO and Clifton 11 differ? Which should I buy first?
The differences are the foam, the sole curve and the rubber; the stack and drop are the same. For a first HOKA, the 11. Once you know the baseline shoe and then step into the PRO, you can tell the difference in foam and curve. Someone who has already worn the Clifton may start from the PRO. A comparison lining up this year's 3 is in the article on HOKA's 2026 new releases.
