The Skechers AERO Elite is for runners who want lightness and spring together on race day, from the 5K to the full marathon. Released Oct 2, 2026, JPY 36,190. About 167 g in a men's 27 cm, with a full-length plate containing carbon. It's Skechers' first super shoe.
The Shoe Nerd's top pick
The AERO Elite is my top pick for race day if you want the lightest plated shoe. About 167 g in a 27 cm is clearly on the light side for a plated max-cushion shoe stacked to 40 mm. On top of that sit supercritical-foamed Hyper Burst Pro, a full-length Quantum Plate containing carbon, and Hyper Arc, which curves up at the toe and heel. The parts that roll a light midsole forward are all in 1 pair. At 500 km a month, I don't pick a racing shoe as an extension of training. For race day, I'd go for this lightness.

There is no earlier generation. It's Skechers' first carbon-plated racing shoe, so we judge it by what the new parts are. There are 4 pillars.
- Hyper Burst Pro: a supercritical-foamed material used in both the midsole and the insole. It's aimed at lightness and spring.
- Quantum Plate: a full-length plate mixed with carbon. It's curved like a spoon, and uses the "Voronoi" idea, inspired by patterns in nature, to get both support and push from less material.
- Hyper Arc: a rocker shape with the toe and heel curved up. It rolls the foot forward from landing to toe-off.
- Upper and outsole: a jacquard-woven upper and a knit tongue. The outsole is light Lite Grip TPU.
The 40 mm stack is the same number as the upper limit allowed in World Athletics road races, and the shoe is certified. It's a design that uses all the thickness the rules allow.
How is it different from other plated racing shoes?

| Model | Weight | Drop | Price | Per gram |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AERO Elite | About 167 g (27 cm) | 4mm | JPY 36,190 | About JPY 217 |
| Cloudboom Strike 2 | 191g | 5mm | JPY 35,200 | About JPY 184 |
| Alphafly 4 | About 188 g (26.5 cm) | 8mm | JPY 39,600 | About JPY 211 |
| Hyperion Elite 6 | 192g (27cm) | 7mm | JPY 49,500 | About JPY 258 |
On weight, it's the best of this group. It's 10 g lighter than the Adios Pro 5 and 24 g lighter than the Cloudboom Strike 2 (177 − 167, 191 − 167). A full marathon is about 21,100 steps per foot, so against the Strike 2 that's 24 g × 21,100, about 506 kg. That's how much less your feet lift in total.
The drop is 4 mm, same as the Adios Pro 5. Against the Alphafly 4's 8 mm, that's half the slope.
- Lightest plated shoe, and you're used to a low drop → AERO Elite
- A lower price, and a race-day pair that's easy to pick up at Japanese shops → Cloudboom Strike 2
- 8 mm drop, and you want to keep cushioning at the heel → Alphafly 4
What I like
That 167 g. For a plated shoe stacked to 40 mm, this weight is on the light side. In the same 27 cm it nearly matches the PUMA Deviate Nitro Elite 4 (about 170 g). The women's is about 142 g in a 24 cm. Lightness shows up in whether your legs keep lifting late in a race.
Light material is used right up near the foot. Hyper Burst Pro goes in the insole as well as the midsole. The rebound layer starts just under the sole of your foot, so it's built to pass force to the plate while your stride stays light.
The plate and the shape work well together. A curved full-length plate, and Hyper Arc at the toe and heel. The plate stores force and the shape rolls you forward, so each part has its own job.
The size range is wide. Men's runs 25.0 to 31.0 cm. That reaches runners with big feet who have been hunting for a racing shoe. The laces are a jagged shape that resists coming undone, and there's reflective material around them that stands out at night and early morning.

A 4 mm drop is low. If you usually run in shoes with an 8 to 10 mm drop, the heel height changes a lot. Before race day, a few key workouts to get your feet used to it will help.
Width comes in 1 normal option. There is no wide.
It's the brand's first pair. It's too early to say how it stacks up against an earlier generation. If you choose racing shoes by track record, you could wait for the next generations.
Who is it for?
- A good fit for: runners chasing a time at the 5K, 10K, half or full who put lightness first for race day. Runners used to racing shoes with a 4 to 5 mm drop.
- A good fit for: runners in big sizes who have been looking for a plated racing shoe. It goes up to men's 31.0 cm.
If you want thickness and slope at the heel, the Alphafly 4 with its 8 mm drop is another way to go.
